Trump Assures Safety Ahead of King Charles III’s US State Visit

US President Donald Trump has assured that King Charles III will be “very safe” during his upcoming state visit to the United States, which is scheduled to begin on Monday.

The assurance comes amid heightened security concerns following an incident in Washington DC on Saturday, where an armed individual managed to gain access to an event attended by the president. In response, further security discussions were held between the White House and Buckingham Palace.

Speaking to CBS’ 60 Minutes on Sunday, President Trump emphasized the high level of protection at the White House, stating that its grounds are “really safe,” where the King is expected to visit as part of the official programme.

According to Buckingham Palace, the visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla will proceed largely as planned. The UK government is hopeful that the visit will also contribute to easing current diplomatic tensions.

The UK’s ambassador to the US, Sir Christian Turner, described the visit as an opportunity to “renew and revitalise a unique friendship” between the two nations.

He further noted that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held discussions with President Trump on Sunday, reaffirming that the visit would go ahead with minimal changes.

In a gesture of goodwill, the King and Queen privately conveyed their sympathies to President Trump and Melania Trump following the security incident. During the event, a Secret Service agent sustained minor injuries, while the president and First Lady were swiftly escorted to safety.

The four-day state visit will commence in Washington DC, where the royal couple will be formally received at the White House by President Trump and the First Lady.
